The Project

The project involved the installation of VRF Air-Conditioning to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th floors, and roof level of Llys Cadwyn, Pontypridd, as part of its refurbishment.

Client Requirements

The Ground Floor and 1st floor at No 2 Lys Cadwyn are currently occupied by Transport for Wales with the intention for RCT local authority to take occupancy on the remaining floors, requiring significant modification of the existing electrical and Mechanical services at 2nd, 3rd, 4th floors, and roof level.

Product Selection

Terratherm Ltd installed new interconnecting services, VRF equipment, and re-purposed some of the existing VRF equipment to suit the refurbishment of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. The existing VRF systems serving the 2nd ,3rd ,4th floors were de-commissioned, the redundant interconnecting VRF interconnecting services and equipment were stripped out.

Solution

The building Mechanical equipment and Mitsubishi VRV outdoors are situated in a plant compound at roof level. As part of the works, the existing plant compound was extended to accommodate additional mechanical equipment and VRF outdoor units. The project involved a full contract crane lift and road closure, completed in the early hours of a cold Sunday morning in November 2023, with 25 lifts to and from the roof level carried out, and the lifting operation completed and the road re-opened by 10 am.
